Electric and Natural Gas – I have worked hard in the state Senate to ensure supply and access for ND families and businesses using electric and natural gas. In 2007, together with legislators on both sides, I supported and worked to pass HB 1049 creating a sales tax exemption for ND consumers for heating fuels. At a time when the supply of these fuels was decreasing and demand was increasing nation-wide, it only made sense to eliminate the state sales tax to provide relief for ND consumers.

As Public Service Commissioner, I will continue working with utility companies to find common sense solutions, like SB 2412 passed in 2005. Together with the House Majority Leader, I co-sponsored this legislation to allow IOUs and RECs to negotiate service area agreements, ensuring rural and urban consumers continued reliable and affordable services.
