On February 1, 2008 I announced my intention to seek the Republican endorsement for the office of Public Service Commissioner. Since my announcement, I have traveled across the state attending events in many districts. I have met and visited with hundreds of North Dakota citizens and my fellow Republicans about my experience and qualifications to serve as your next Public Service Commissioner. I ask for your support for my endorsement at the State Convention in Fargo this March.

As Republicans consider choosing a candidate for Public Service Commissioner, it is important that our party nominate and endorse a candidate that is a tested, experienced, and a proven leader on the issues that will define this important state election.

I have worked hard and have been successful in my state Senate campaigns and in the policy making branch of our state government. As a Senator since 1993, Senate Majority Leader since 2001, the principles of our Republican party have guided me and helped make North Dakota and our economy the envy of the nation.

For years I have worked with my fellows Republicans to develop our natural resources: coal, oil, natural gas, ethanol, biodiesel, wind and alternative energies, doing so in a responsible manner. There are those who doubted we could achieve our goals, yet I was at the forefront of creating policy to advocate for our consumers and work with industry and local, state, and federal policy makers to provide common sense solutions.

Those opposed to developing our natural resources and expanding our state economy did their best to strangle the energy industry with heavy-handed taxes and oppressive regulation. As the leader of the Senate, I stood with my fellow Republicans to fight for reasonable and fair contributions from the industry, setting a balance between the energy needs of our state and nation and the insistence we keep our environment healthy.

My fifteen years of hands-on, public service experience in the state Senate as a consumer advocate and working with businesses and industry on issues important to our state demonstrates what I will bring to the Public Service Commission. It is this experience and a history of Proven Leadership and results that uniquely qualifies me to serve as Public Service Commissioner.

As your Public Service Commissioner, I will promise to:

  1. Continue to advocate for all citizens of North Dakota
  2. Continue to work hard to ensure reliable and safe services at reasonable rates:
    • Electric
    • Natural Gas
    • Telecommunications
    • Transportation and Rail
  3. Continue to promote and develop our energy resources:
    • Coal
    • Oil
    • Natural Gas
    • Ethanol & BioDiesel
    • Wind and Alternative Energies

With your support, I am optimistic We Can Win in November!
